Simple Sunday Outline - One-Hour Kids Church That Anyone Can Lead!

You might be thinking, "But I'm not a professional teacher, and I don't have much experience!" Fear not! You can do this! Follow this simple outline to facilitate a great kids' ministry experience in any setting. Make sure you have read through this outline, have a Bible lesson ready (use a video lesson!) and have your Kidmin Bin available. Pray for God's guidance as you lead your kids, and you are ready to go!

1. Arriving Kids (1-5 min)

  • Direct kids to where you want them to sit.

  • If you have kids arriving over a longer period of time, have an individual activity for them to do; like a colouring page or activity sheet.

2. Welcome (5 min)

  • Grab the kid's attention with a big, "HELLO EVERYONE!"

  • Ask kids how their week was.

  • Ask if anything exciting happened that they want to share.

3. Game Time (5-10 min)

4. Music (5 min)

  • Get all the kids to stand up and encourage them to dance and move as you sing to Jesus!

  • Play a worship song from a video (even from your phone with a Bluetooth speaker) or sing a song that you know a cappella.

5. Bible Story Time (10-15 min)

  • Share a Bible lesson that you have prepared ahead of time.

  • Or read a Bible story from a Children's Bible (or NLT Bible)

  • Or Use a video lesson if you don't have time to prepare or are not comfortable teaching.

6. Response Time (5-10 min)

  • Choose some of the following questions to ask your kids. You may have to ask each question in a different way that is more specific to the story and lead kids towards and answer:

    • Who were the people in today’s story? What happened in the story?

    • How did the story make you feel? What would you have done if you were in their shoes?

    • Did the people in the story learn anything? What did they learn?

    • What can we learn from this story? What can we learn about how Jesus wants us to live?

7. Prayer Time (5 min)

  • Ask if any of the kids have prayer requests.

  • Encourage them to pray out loud for each other if they are comfortable.

  • End prayer time with a short prayer for all of the kids.

8. Activity Time (15 min)

  • Finish off your time with a game or activities from the Kidmin Bin.

Do you have more than 60 minutes?

  • Choose a memory verse game to play

  • Add an activity or game in between the Bible Story and Response Time.

  • Have kids start with an activity time before the official welcome.

  • Let the response time go as long as the kids are engaged

  • End with alternating (in 10 minutes blocks) games and activities until your time is up.

Do you have more time to prepare?

  • Bring a themed colouring or activity sheet.

  • Plan a themed game for the activity.

  • Bring a special snack.

    • Pinterest is a Kids’ Church Leader’s best friend. Simply type the name of the Bible story and what you want.

      • Examples:

        • Jonah and the Whale kids snack, Jesus feeds 5000 kids crossword, Genesis creation story kids game
